PERFORMANCES ~ All students will have the opportunity to play in the Cathedral Arts Festival, Victoria Day Parade May 20, 11:00 am, and at the Year End Student Recital at Westminster United Church Thursday evening May 23rd during the Festival.

All classes are drop-in, $10 per class unless noted otherwise.

SPIRIT OF THE DRUM, DJEMBE AND PERCUSSION
~ ADULT CLASS 10:30 to 12:00 noon, Jan 11 ~ weekly
10:30 TO 11:30 – TRAVEL THE WORLD OF RHYTHM
11:30 TO 12:00 – KICK IT UP A NOTCH. During the last half hour of the class we will push harder on technique, tempo, and complexity. Students can decide to join in or leave for that part. The core class will still be one hour and
“kick it up a notch” is the last 1/2 hour.

INTRODUCTORY DJEMBE ~ you have to start somewhere
9:15 to 10:15 am, ADULT CLASS, Jan 12 ~ weekly
increase your comfort level on the drum
All the basics of djembe drumming, ensemble playing, foundation rhythms and how to mess with them for your own personal statement.
Includes small percussion and drum circle rhythms.
SUPPORTED DRUMMING – youth to young adult
Like Special Olympics ~ this is Special Drumming
Drummer/s accompanied by a support person.
10:30 to 11:15 am, January 12, weekly. For a friendly musical journey come join us. $10 drop-in fee for one,
$15 for a family (more than one youth),
A toonie each for support people.
YDC – YOUTH DRUM COLLECTIVE
Performing group. For youth 11 to 18. Saturday 11:30am -12:30pm Led by noted music educator Marlene Hinz. This session will take participants through many aspects of drumming including learning traditional rhythms as well as created ones. Participants will develop their confidence, musicality and sense of community as they create music with each other. Performances will also be included. Drums will be supplied. Youth 7 to 10, Saturday 12:30 to 1:30. Led by Music Educator Marlene Hinz. This session is for students age 7 to 10 or with previous drum experience. Same content as YDC at age appropriate level. Drums are supplied. Will perform at student recital. Class Dates: Same as YDC Above

DOUMBEK, Sunday 12:00 to 1:00 pm, Jan. 13, every two weeks. Learn a variety of Middle Eastern rhythms with the intent of drumming for dancers and opportunity to perform.
CONGA Sunday 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, Jan 13, every two weeks. Building your technique and feel for group playing of Latin rhythms. Will be working on Palo, an energetic Afro-Cuban rhythm on Conga accompanied by instructor on Bata.
